The government has sealed its border with Iran, restraining any movement across the region. The disease is viral and can be transferred from one person to another. The novel coronavirus is dangerous in its own kind, as no treatment has been discovered for it yet. The symptoms mainly observed are dry cough and flu at initial stages, with followed up pneumonia in extreme conditions causing deaths. Most of the victims are either heart-patients or people who have weak immune systems. There has been no case recorded in children less than 13 years.

Coronavirus

The global economy has been highly disturbed by the ongoing effect of COVID-19. According to the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), the airline industry is expected to bear a loss of $29 billion worldwide, with China bearing a loss of 44% of the total alone. The global stock market has reached the biggest weekly loss since 2008 because of the outbreak of coronavirus in 56 countries. The global supply chain slowed, mainly affecting the transportation of organic food. A local reporter in Germany, on social media, showed the empty vegetable stalls in a market yesterday. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 90,000 people are affected by coronavirus all over the world. The US death toll reaches 6 while that of China crossed, 2900. There has been a continuous decline in the economy of developed countries, which is a serious threat to Pakistan already going through turmoil.

The data for 1500 pilgrims who have recently returned from Iran has been gathered as said by government resources. Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Saeed, advised people not to panic about the recent precautionary measures that have been taken by the local government. There has been a lot of hype created amongst the issue in Karachi recently. The public is encouraged to wear protective facemasks as a prevention measure to the coronavirus. However, there have been cases reported for increased price rates of protective masks by the vendors and shopkeepers. The government is taking strict steps to control the situation. However, the public doesn’t seem satisfied with health facilities in Pakistan, which has been a continuous question mark to the government performances ever. However, it will be interesting to see how the Pakistani government, which is still campaigning against dengue and polio, deals with the coronavirus.

Following are some precautionary measures suggested by WHO that should be taken by each of us:

·       Wash your hands regularly with soap or use sanitizer to prevent yourself from different germs.
·       Maintain a social distance of at least 3 feet, especially to people coughing or sneezing, as the germs are transmitted through the spray of small liquid droplets.
·       Avoid touching mouth, nose, and eyes since our hands touch different surfaces that may have viruses.
·       The earlier symptoms of corona infection include dry cough, flu, and fever. Anyone who has these symptoms must seek medical care.

We should spread these precautions to everyone, considering it our moral duty. Take good care of and protect yourself and others from getting sick.
